Lesley Deacon RM BSc MSc PGCE

Lesley Deacon has a diverse and extensive work experience in the healthcare sector. Lesley currently holds the position of Deputy Chief Nurse at the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS), starting in 2022. Prior to this, they served as a Governor at Cambridge Regional College starting in 2022.

Lesley has had a long and successful career in military service, particularly with the Army Cadets UK. Their roles within the organization include Commandant (Colonel), Deputy Commandant (Cadets) (Major), Company Commander (Major), Company 2IC (2nd in Command) (Captain), and various other leadership positions. Lesley has made significant contributions to training, leadership, and management during their time with the Army Cadets UK.

In terms of healthcare positions, Lesley has held various leadership roles starting in 2016. Lesley served as the Head of Midwifery & Associate Chief Nurse at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust, where they managed the Women's and Children's Division and implemented improvements in performance outcomes. Lesley also developed the Midwifery Led Pathway and worked closely with external stakeholders as a member of the Local Maternity System Board.

Before that, Lesley was the Head of Midwifery & Associate Director of Nursing at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, where they led service improvement initiatives and played a key role in the planning and implementation of maternity unit closures. Lesley also worked as a Clinical Midwifery Manager at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where they successfully implemented a new model of care and increased the homebirth rate.

Earlier in their career, Lesley served as the Modern Matron for Community & Antenatal Services at North West London Hospitals NHS Trust and held responsibilities in improving services and managing the delivery suite.

Lesley Deacon's work experience demonstrates their capabilities in leadership, management, and clinical expertise within the healthcare sector, particularly in the areas of midwifery and nursing.

Lesley Deacon has a diverse education history. Lesley began their academic journey by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Direct Entry Midwifery from King's College London in the years 1996 to 2000. Lesley then pursued further education at the same institution, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Midwifery from 2008 to 2013. In 2014, Lesley received a Leadership Scholarship from the Florence Nightingale Foundation. Currently, Lesley is enrolled at the University of East Anglia, where they are working towards a Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care, which they are anticipated to complete in 2024.
