Alejandra has always been passionate about fighting for social justice. This led their to intern with the Latin America team at Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, where they provided support to the communications, legal, grants, and research teams in their Latin America related work. Alejandra also prepared internal reports and communications, including drafting part of the Latin America Strategic Plan and the Director’s meeting minutes for official record-keeping purposes.
In their previous position as Senior Legislative Assistant at the Council of the District of Columbia, Alejandra was responsible for researching and drafting legislation, handling constituent inquiries, and testifying before committees.
Alejandra’s experience in both the public and private sector has equipped their with the skills necessary to be an effective Program & Financial Compliance Officer at Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. In this role, they are responsible for ensuring that the organization’s programs are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Alejandra Barrera has a Master's in Public Administration and Policy from American University. Alejandra also has a B.S. in Economics focused on Public Policy from Universidad ICESI. Additionally, they have a certification from the CITI Program in Social and Behavioral Research - Basic/Refresher, and a certification from PEAK Grantmaking in GM101 Introduction to Grants Management.
Alejandra Barrera reports to Pam Sumner Coffey, VP, Global Operations. They are on a team with Sarah Berluche - Associate Director, Administration, Jessie Phillips - Program & Financial Compliance Officer, and Voula Ikonomou - Contracts Administrator.
