Sam Utley has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years. Sam started their career as an Engineering Technician at The University of Georgia in 2004. In 2006, they transitioned to MapTech, Inc. where they served as a Manager for Environmental Monitoring Services and IT Administrator.

During their time at Virginia Tech, from 2006 to 2009, Sam was a Ph.D. Graduate Student. Sam was actively involved in various activities, including developing management software for the Commonwealth of Virginia DEQ, conducting research on instrumentation and logistics for switchgrass harvest for biofuel production, student teaching, and coursework in Control Systems, GIS, and Statistical Analysis.

Sam joined Campbell Scientific, Inc. in 2009 and held multiple roles within the company. Sam started as a Sales Engineer and later became a Group Manager for Hardware Test and Support. From 2011 to 2016, Sam served as the Communication Products Manager and also took on the role of Datalogger and Communication Products Manager. In 2017, they were promoted to Vice President for Sales and Marketing, and in 2018, they assumed the position of Vice President Research and Development, where they currently serve.

Sam Utley has a diverse education history. Sam began their academic journey at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 1997, where they obtained an Associate's degree in Biology, General in 1999. Sam then pursued their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biological/Biosystems Engineering at The University of Georgia from 1999 to 2002. Following this, they furthered their education at The University of Georgia and completed their Master of Science (MS) degree in Agricultural Engineering from 2002 to 2004.

In addition to their formal education, Sam Utley has also obtained certifications from Pragmatic Marketing. In September 2014, they achieved the Pragmatic Marketing Certified – Level II (PMC-II) - Focus certification. Sam has also obtained the Pragmatic Marketing Certified – Level I (PMC-I) - Foundations certification, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certification are not provided.
