Sowmiya Palani

Sowmiya Palani, Ph.D., currently serves as a Research Grants Manager at Cancer Research UK since January 2024. Prior to this role, Sowmiya worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at The Francis Crick Institute, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of proteins involved in DNA repair. Sowmiya completed a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, where research centered on the structural and functional analysis of proteases related to DNA damage and repair. Experienced in various laboratory techniques, Sowmiya's earlier roles include a Lab Technician at Huntsman Cancer Institute, where techniques like yeast chromatin spread were utilized, and a Research Intern at Texas A&M University, developing nano-composite hydrogels for biomedical applications. Sowmiya holds a Bachelor's Degree in Genetic Engineering from SRM IST Chennai.
