Tyler Whitby has over 15 years of work experience in various roles, primarily in the technology and environmental sectors. Tyler is currently working as a Senior Backend Engineer at Canopy since April 2022. Their previous role was as a Data Engineer at nThrive from October 2021 to March 2022.
Before that, Tyler had a long tenure at MarketStar from 2014 to 2021, where they held multiple roles. As an Application Developer (Python), they worked on data integrations, ETL, and other data processes using various tools and platforms. Tyler also performed database development tasks, including designing and implementing databases, tables, views, stored procedures, and related processes. As an Application Developer (C#), their responsibilities included building and maintaining internal applications using C#, JavaScript, HTML, and SQL Server. Tyler also used SQL Server and Python to develop data solutions for application development, reporting, and analytics projects. Additionally, Tyler worked as a Report Developer II, where they were more involved in database development, scripting, and training and mentoring. Tyler started their journey at MarketStar as a Report Developer I, working with clients to assess reporting needs and designing and implementing solutions using T-SQL and SQL Server Reporting Services.
Prior to their time at MarketStar, Tyler worked as a Web Developer at Northrop Grumman for a brief period in 2013, where they maintained and improved internal web applications using Adobe ColdFusion and Oracle.
Tyler's early work experience includes a role as an Environmental Analyst at EarthTouch, Inc. from 2010 to 2013, where they prepared reports on environmental site assessments and policy requirements. Tyler traveled to sites, conducted investigations, researched historical data, and compiled findings into comprehensive reports.
Before that, Tyler served as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor at Texas Tech University from 2008 to 2010, and as a Technical Editor at EarthTouch, Inc. from 2007 to 2008, where they edited and improved environmental reports.
Tyler's first professional experience was as a Layout Editor at Weber State University's Office of Undergraduate Research from 2006 to 2008. In this role, they designed layouts and formatted content for the university's undergraduate research journal using Adobe InDesign CS2.
Tyler Whitby started their education in 2000 and completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an Emphasis in Technical Writing at Weber State University in 2006. Tyler then pursued further studies and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Technical Communication from Texas Tech University from 2008 to 2010. After that, Tyler returned to Weber State University and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from 2013 to 2015.
In addition to their formal education, Tyler has also obtained certifications. In June 2018, they achieved the Exam 761: Querying Data with Transact-SQL certification from Microsoft. Most recently, in January 2022, they also obtained the Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals certification from Microsoft.
