Merle B. Martin II, M.d.

Merle B. Martin II, M.D. has extensive experience in the field of psychiatry and mental health care. Merle B. is currently working at Canyon Vista Medical Center as the Medical Director and Medical Director - Behavioral Health Services. Prior to this, they served as an Outpatient Child & Adult Psychiatrist at Norfolk Psychiatric Associates, P.C. from December 2017 to August 2021. Merle B. also worked as an Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health from August 2012 to August 2021. Before entering private practice, Dr. Martin served as a US Navy Psychiatrist from July 2008 to June 2017. During their time in the Navy, they provided clinical outpatient mental health care to US Navy SEALs and Support Staff, specializing in treatment for mTBI, PTSD, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, and chronic pain management. Additionally, they served as a mental health subject matter expert for the Commanding Officer, NAVSPECWARGRUTWO, and the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force Commanding Officer in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Dr. Martin also worked as a Division Officer at the Mental Health Clinic in Sewell's Point, Norfolk, VA.

Merle B. Martin II, M.D. attended the University of Southern California and obtained a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 2004. Additionally, they pursued further education at UC Irvine, where they completed a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biological Sciences in 2000. Following their undergraduate studies, they enrolled in the Psychiatry Residency Program at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where they completed their training in 2008.
