Wei He Ph.d

Wei He, Ph.D, CFA has extensive work experience in the field of market analytics and energy economics. They currently work as a Market Analytics Specialist at Capital Power, where they model and forecast power prices and production for the Ontario power market using AURORAxmp and other tools. They also provide macroeconomic variable forecasts and perform fundamental analysis to improve forecast accuracy. Prior to this role, Wei worked at the Department of Energy, Government of Alberta in various positions, including Acting Senior Specialist, Acting Manager, and Senior Analyst. In these roles, they provided long-term forecasts for conventional oil and gas production, conducted economic evaluations for royalty programs, and engaged in industry consultation. Wei also worked at Capital Power Corporation as a Power Market Modeling Specialist, delivering power price forecasts and conducting scenario/sensitivity analysis for Alberta and US Northeast markets using AURORAxmp. Additionally, Wei has teaching experience as a Sessional Instructor at the University of Alberta, where they prepared lesson plans, communicated with students, and adjusted teaching methods based on feedback. They also worked as a Teaching & Research Assistant, conducting computer labs and assisting with data collection and analysis for research projects.

Wei He, Ph.D, CFA, obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Finance & Public Finance from Xiamen University in the years 2000 to 2004. Wei then pursued a Master's Degree in Economics at Lakehead University from 2004 to 2005. Wei Wei continued their academic journey by completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics at the University of Alberta from 2005 to 2011. In addition to their formal education, Wei Wei has obtained various certifications, including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification from the CFA Institute in January 2022. Furthermore, they have acquired additional skills in advanced Excel formulas and functions, SQL for data analysis, effective public speaking, and SAS Visual Analytics through respective courses offered by LinkedIn and SAS.
