David Lamb is the current Chief Risk Officer at Capitolis. Prior to this, they were with State Street from October 2014 to January 2017 as the Managing Director, In-Business Risk. In this role, they were the global head of in-business risk management for the Trading and Clearing business, which included the Futures and Options Clearing and Execution business, as well as, the Global Link business which was made up of Currenex, FX Connect, and Fund Connect. David was also a member of the NY Fed Payments Risk Committee having been first appointed while at Morgan Stanley. David was retained by State Street following their decision in 2016 to wind down the F&O business.
During their time at State Street, David Lamb made several key accomplishments. David identified a major issue with the Risk Weighted Assets attributed to the clearing business as they were vastly overstated. David reduced from $2.5B to $200M the RWAs attributable to the clearing business by educating the financial reporting group about what risks truly belong to the clearing business. David also conducted detailed analysis of various scenarios to determine the appropriate level of residual interest and more extreme funding requirements for the clearing business. This resulted in decreased funding costs associated with the clearing business. In addition, they developed a reporting model that enhanced monitoring of client’s market positions to predict the next day’s margin calls; and any associated short term funding requirements. David was also a key resource supporting the sales force in helping clients understand their counterparty risk, as well as, our counterparty risk. Clients appreciated this transparency. Furthermore, they built out the risk framework for the fixed income clearing business, to ensure that the pre-settlement exposure was fully understood by management and this risk was contained. Lastly, they repaired the relationship between the Global Link businesses and the independent corporate audit function by partnering with the auditors; established a more cooperative and professional relationship.
