Danny Dedman

Senior Associate at Capsticks

Danny Dedman is a Senior Associate who joined Capsticks’ Housing Management team in October 2021, specialising in all things housing management including; disrepair claims, injunction proceedings & possession claims (concerning all grounds).

He has a unique added insight into housing disputes from a number of years earlier in his career practising not only as a successful criminal defence & family lawyer – but also as a housing solicitor acting predominantly for tenants based in South London. Criminal proceedings and/or family court orders can significantly affect a tenancy in a number of ways & this knowledge & awareness allows for forward thinking & pragmatic approaches to resolving tenancy issues.

Danny has acted in a number of important reported legal cases concerning, for example; the scope of a tenancy agreement in prohibiting anti-social behaviour in an entire London borough, the legal definition of ‘vulnerable’ & the extent to which a trial judge can assist an unrepresented party litigant without ‘entering the arena of conflict.’

Danny recognises the raft of legal challenges & constraints that landlords must navigate on a day-to-day basis & adopts an ethically robust approach in response to those challenges. Advice is always offered in clear & plain speaking language & non-legal solutions to disputes are very often suggested. Danny also recognises that seeking legal advice is not always easy for clients so he strives to be the three A’s – approachable, available & adaptable.

A favourite of Danny’s are possession proceedings based on anti-social behaviour & fraud - but in recent years Danny has broadened his specialism in defending landlords from disrepair claims and he now offers training to landlords on the subject through courses & seminars designed & tailored for specific organisations & their internal processes.

Danny is also a very keen advocate & always aims to represent his clients at court hearings to ensure seamless case management & client satisfaction (and to put the world to rights over a post-hearing coffee).
