Working at the intersection of hardware, software, and molecular science, Carbon3D is commercializing a fundamental advance in the chemistry of 3D printing that enables massive increases in print speed and improved material properties. We believe our technology will enable commercial customers to go beyond basic prototyping to mass production of 3D printed parts.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Technician to join our Engineering team. This role would work closely with our Electrical Engineers to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair problematic hardware. This person would create and document cables and rework PCBs for development builds and production inventory. This role would also work with our engineering team to resolve electrical issues on our existing test hardware. They will maintain the electrical engineering lab space and inventory making sure that we can continue to efficiently develop our hardware products. This role will work cross-functionally, reporting to the Manager of the Systems and Electrical Engineering team.

This full-time in office role is based at Carbon’s headquarters in Redwood City, California.

Responsibilities...

  • Soldering / reworking fine-pitch SMT components
  • Attaching probes and wires to printed circuit boards
  • Organize and maintain lab assets, lab stations, and storage space
  • Assist in prototyping: harnesses, test station setup/teardown 
  • Procure and maintain a stock of R&D and repair hardware supplies

You have...

  • 3+ years of soldering, reworking, and related experience across a variety of SMT components
  • Proven expertise with PCBA rework, wire harnessing, and electromechanical assembly within an R&D or advanced prototyping environment
  • Experience with test equipment (e.g. digital multimeter, oscilloscope, signal generators) 
  • Ability to quickly change direction and prioritize work across multiple different types of tasks (harness-making, PCB rework, lab organization) 
  • Familiarity of electronic schematic & layout tools (Altium experience Preferred) 
  • Champion safety, security, and quality standards

Nice to have...

  • Electrical Engineering Degree
  • 10+ Years of experience
  • Experience prototyping simple circuits and test boxes to simulate real functional inputs
  • Python scripting experience
  • Test Experience
  • Board level communication protocols:  RS232, SPI, I2C
  • Troubleshooting experience at component level 
  • Document control:  SVN, GIT
  • Task/Documentation management tools:  JIRA, Confluence 
  • Design Tools: Altium

At Carbon, we look at the person holistically and carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation.  The pay range for this position is $35.58 - $52.88 USD per hour.  Your actual salary will be based on your experience, work location, certifications and the unique skills you bring to the role. If you are not based in our Redwood City office, the range above will be adjusted for the geographical differential associated with your actual work location.
