Mechanical Design Engineer at Carbon

Nicolas Benais-Thomson has a diverse work experience in the field of mechanical design engineering. Nicolas is currently working as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Carbon since April 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Tesla as a Mechanical Design Engineer for Energy Products from January 2021 to March 2022.

Nicolas also has a background in entrepreneurship, as they co-founded and served as a Director at Stacktronic, a battery technology startup. In this role from September 2018 to July 2020, they led the development of innovative battery modules for industrial electric vehicle applications, overseeing mechanical and electrical designs from conception to manufacturing.

Earlier in their career, Nicolas worked at Apple as a Product Design Engineer from January 2018 to August 2018. In this role, they were responsible for the design, testing, and manufacturing of system-critical sub-assemblies in the iPhone. Nicolas demonstrated expertise in mechanical design, FPCB design, DOE, DFM, DFA, and various manufacturing processes.

Nicolas Benais-Thomson pursued their education starting from 2013 until 2019 at the University of Waterloo. During this period, they completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, from 2014 to 2015, they attended Beijing Language and Culture University, where they obtained an Advanced Language Certificate in Mandarin Language.
