Wilson Wong

Staff Research Scientist at Carbon

Wilson Wong has a diverse work experience in various fields. Wilson started their career as a Materials Technician at Thurber Engineering Ltd., where they conducted concrete testing and compaction testing for multiple construction projects. Wilson then worked as a Residence Advisor at UBC Student Housing and Hospitality Services, where they mentored and guided students, focusing on building community spirit and supporting their transition to university residence life. Wilson also worked as a Research Intern at the National Institute for Materials Science, where they conducted research on casting titanium aluminide intermetallics, helping to formulate a new manufacturing method and ensuring product quality. Wilson later worked as a Trainee Engineer at the Composites Research Network, where they designed experiments to analyze key parameters affecting porosity in vacuum-infused composite parts. Their work led to the elimination of rejected products due to high porosity. Currently, Wilson is a Senior Research Scientist at Carbon, where they support the company through materials characterization and testing, with a current focus on designing efficient 3D-printed impact structures for protective gear.

Wilson Wong completed their International Baccalaureate at Emirates International School in 2009. Wilson then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Materials Engineering from The University of British Columbia, where they studied from 2009 to 2014.
