Mark Beattie has extensive work experience in finance, particularly in the education and media sectors. Mark is currently the Head of Finance for Arts Humanities and Social Sciences at Cardiff University, a role they have held since January 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Interim Head of Finance at the same institution from June 2022. Before joining Cardiff University, Mark worked as a Finance Business Partner at the University of South Wales from March 2021 to June 2022. Their media experience includes positions at the BBC, where they served as the Programme Finance Manager from December 2014 to March 2021. Mark also worked as a Project Accountant, a Finance Effectiveness Programme - Learning & Development SME, and a Business Accountant during their tenure at the BBC. Earlier in their career, Mark worked as a Finance Manager at both the Welsh Assembly Government from April 2005 to April 2006 and Eversheds from May 2002 to March 2005.

Mark Beattie obtained a degree in Accountancy from the University of Wales College of Newport in 2001. In 2013, they completed a program in Project Management at Knowledge Academy. From 1982 to 1989, Mark attended Gwernyfed High School, but no degree or field of study is specified. In 2019, they enrolled at Knowledge Academy again, pursuing a degree in Programme Management with a focus on Managing Successful Programmes (MSP). Additionally, in 2017, Mark became an Accredited Facilitator through the Association of Facilitators.
