Hicham Chaoui

Hicham Chaoui is a distinguished academic and engineer currently serving as a Full Professor at Carleton University since January 2017, specializing in the modeling and control of nonlinear dynamic systems, adaptive control theory, machine intelligence, and soft computing. Chaoui has also held significant leadership roles, including Batten Endowed Chair and Inaugural Director of the Institute for Autonomous & Connected Systems at Old Dominion University from July 2025, and has been an Adjunct Professor at Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières since March 2012. Previous experience includes positions at Tennessee Technological University, Cégep de l'Outaouais, TDE Techno Design, Orbite Technologies Inc., Hewitt Equipment Ltd., École Polytechnique de Montréal, and Envitech Energy - ABB Group. Chaoui holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and multiple graduate degrees in fields related to project management and computer science.
