Yi Zhang

Senior Director, Technology at Cartesian Therapeutics

Yi Zhang is the current Senior Director of Technology at Cartesian Therapeutics. Yi previously worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the National Cancer Institute from December 2009 to December 2015, where they lead independent research projects to determine novel mechanisms of telomere protection. Some of their notable discoveries during their time at the National Cancer Institute include a novel telomere capping protein complex MTV (Moi-TEA-Ver) that protects ssDNA regions of telomeres, and elucidating telomere capping mechanisms of the MTV complex. In addition to their research accomplishments, Yi Zhang is also experienced in designing and developing expression vectors and insect cell expression systems, and has mentored and trained 5 students throughout their career.

Yi Zhang received their PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Dalhousie University. Yi also holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology from the University of Calgary, and a Master's Degree in Microbiology, General from Chengdu Institute of Biology, Academia Sinica, China. Her Bachelor's Degree is in Biochemistry from Sichuan University, China.
