Qin-Fan Zhu

VP Of Software at Casa Systems

Qin-Fan Zhu has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of software and video technology. Starting in 1993, Zhu worked at Motorola as a Staff Engineer, where they developed video communication algorithms and obtained 6 US patents. In 1996, they joined Multilink, Inc. as a Principal Engineer, where they focused on developing algorithms and DSP software for video transrating and mixing for multipoint video conferencing bridges. Multilink, Inc. was later acquired by PictureTel. Zhu then became a Consulting Engineer at PictureTel in 1997, managing a team in the development of video DSP algorithm and software for multipoint video conferencing bridges and ISDN to IP video gateways. Qin-Fan obtained 2 US patents during their time at PictureTel.

In 1999, Zhu joined Convergent Networks as an Engineering Manager, leading the software development for voice gateways that supported Voice over IP for cable and voice over ATM. Qin-Fan also developed resource management software to manage system resources including ATM SAR's, DSP's, and TDM timeslot exchanges. After leaving Convergent Networks, Zhu worked at Sand Video in 2003 as a Principal Engineer, where they were involved in the development of H. 264/MPEG-4 AVC encoding/decoding algorithm and software. Sand Video was subsequently acquired by Broadcom in 2004, and Zhu continued their work as an Engineering Manager at Broadcom, managing a team to develop H. 264/MPEG-4 AVC video decoding firmware. Qin-Fan obtained 3 US patents and had 4 more pending during their tenure at Broadcom.

In 2007, Zhu joined Verivue Inc. as a Member of Technical Staff. Qin-Fan'srole involved architecture and design for a media distribution system that supported video streaming, internet video streaming, and downloading. Qin-Fan also had 7 pending patent applications at Verivue Inc. Most recently, Zhu worked at Casa Systems, Inc. as the Director of Video Software from 2011 to 2019 before transitioning to the role of VP of Software. Through their various roles, Zhu gained comprehensive expertise in video technology and software development.

Qin-Fan Zhu obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University during the period of 1979 to 1983. Later, from 1983 to 1986, Zhu pursued further education and completed a Master of Engineering (M.E.) degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Subsequently, from 1988 to 1992, Zhu attended New York University - Polytechnic School of Engineering, earning a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.
