Colin Bates

Colin is leading Cascadia Seaweed’s BCSRIF-funded project to evaluate the role of seaweed farms as habitat for migrating salmonids and their prey. He has 20+ years researching, teaching, and championing seaweeds on west and east coasts of Canada and in Arctic and Antarctic ecosystems. Prior to joining Cascadia Seaweed, Colin led a pre-feasibility study to establish a Canadian Centre for Seaweed Research in Port Alberni, served as Ocean Wise’s first Director of Seaforestation, and spent over a decade as Professor of Life Sciences at Quest University Canada.
