Chris Mattes

Chris Mattes has had a diverse and extensive career in the wine and liquor industry. Starting in 1999 as the General Manager of Barman's Liquor Group, they managed the entire group of independent liquor retailers. From 2000 to 2007, they worked at Tyrrell's Vineyards, where they held various roles, including National On Premise Manager and National Chains Manager, focusing on sales and profit growth strategies for major accounts. At McWilliam's Wines from 2007 to 2013, Chris served as the National Accounts Manager for Coles Liquor Group and later became the National Business Manager for Coles and Woolworths, responsible for the end-to-end management of strategic customers and developing sales strategies. Following this, they worked as a Strategic Business Development Consultant at Franklin Tates Estates/Grape Expectations Estates, leading the development and execution of the national strategic business growth plan and mentoring the sales team. In 2014, they joined Endeavour Drinks Group as the Category Manager for Wine and later became the Merchandise Manager (Head of Wine), responsible for managing the +$1.1 billion Wine Category and driving sales growth. Most recently, Chris joined Merivale in 2020 as the Head of Retail Strategy, where they focused on building the retail and e-commerce strategy for the hospitality group. Chris is currently working at Casella Family Brands as the Customer Marketing Manager, leading the digital and e-commerce transformation. Throughout their career, Chris has demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, category management, promotional execution, and team leadership.

Chris Mattes has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Psychology from Macquarie University. Chris also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Charles Sturt University. In addition to their academic achievements, Chris has also completed studies at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. Chris completed their high school education at Colo High School, where they served as the School Captain and obtained their Higher School Certificate (HSC).
