Senior Director, Judicial National Engagement at Casey Family Programs

Sheldon Spotted-Elk has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and organizations. Sheldon is currently working as the Senior Director of Judicial National Engagement at Casey Family Programs since March 2022. Prior to that, they served as an Appellate Judge at the Ute Indian Tribe Uintah and Ouray Reservation starting in August 2019. Sheldon also worked as the Director of Tribal Justice Relations at the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges from December 2020 to March 2022. In addition, they have held positions such as Adjunct Professor at Lewis and Clark College, Director of Indian Child Welfare at Casey Family Programs, Chief of Staff to the Tribal Business Committee and Guardian ad Litem at the Ute Indian Tribe Uintah and Ouray Reservation, Tribal Court Advocate at Utah Legal Services, and Admissions Committee Member and Student Attorney at The University of New Mexico School of Law. Sheldon also worked as a Teacher's Assistant for the Pre-Law School Institute (PLSI), American Indian Law Center.

Sheldon Spotted-Elk began their education in 2003 at Western Wyoming Community College, where they obtained an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in General Studies. Sheldon then pursued a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree at the University of Utah from 2004 to 2007. Following that, from 2007 to 2010, they attended The University of New Mexico School of Law, where they completed their Juris Doctorate degree and also earned a certificate in Indian Law.
