Simon Helton has a diverse work experience in various roles over the years. Simon started their career as a Librarian at UC Berkeley, where they overhauled the library's organization system and led training sessions for patrons. Simon then transitioned to becoming a Graduate Student Instructor at UC Berkeley, where they designed and implemented a curriculum for Norwegian courses and received the Graduate Student Instructor of the Year award. Simon also worked as a Lecturer, teaching reading and composition courses at UC Berkeley.
Simon later joined Oktober as a Translator, collaborating with the author and publisher to translate a Norwegian novel into English for marketing purposes. Simon also worked as a Researcher at Stanford University.
Moving on, Simon joined the California School-Based Health Alliance as an Outreach and Development Associate, managing membership drives, conducting outreach campaigns, and quadrupling website traffic through Google AdWords.
Simon then joined ISTE, where they held various roles, such as Community Engagement Manager, Senior Manager of Community Engagement, Director of Community Engagement, and Director of Membership and Community. In these positions, they managed online communities, developed community strategies, and oversaw a team of volunteers.
Currently, Simon works as a Community Manager at Cayuse LLC, leading the Connect online community for research professionals worldwide. In this role, they develop community positioning and strategy, tracks KPIs, manages the community ambassador program, and collaborates with internal departments to meet member and company needs.
Simon Helton completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Oregon from 2003 to 2007. During the same period, they also pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy from the same institution. Following this, Simon went on to obtain a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Scandinavian Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley, from 2007 to 2012. Simon obtained several certifications related to meeting management and conflict resolution, including "Common Meeting Problems," "Leading Productive Meetings," and "Managing Team Conflict" from LinkedIn in various years.
