Deputy Associate Director For Science at CDC

Christine Mattson is a seasoned epidemiologist and academic with significant experience in public health research and program evaluation. Currently serving as the Deputy Associate Director for Science in the Division of Overdose Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control since January 2025, Christine focuses on reviewing research and ensuring the scientific accuracy of various communications related to drug overdose prevention. Previous roles at the Centers for Disease Control include serving as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, where Christine provided technical epidemiologic guidance for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief in various countries. With a PhD and MS in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois Chicago, Christine has held multiple research positions, including Visiting Research Specialist and project coordinator at Children's Memorial Hospital, contributing to numerous studies and publications in the field.
