Nathalie Maréchal

Nathalie Maréchal, PhD has extensive work experience in the field of privacy, data governance, and digital rights. Nathalie currently serves as the Co-Director of Privacy & Data at the Center for Democracy & Technology. Prior to this, Nathalie held various positions at Ranking Digital Rights, including Policy Director, Senior Policy & Partnerships Manager, Senior Policy Analyst, Senior Research Analyst, and Senior Research Fellow. Nathalie has also worked as a Senior Fellow in Information Controls and a COMPASS Fellow at Ranking Digital Rights. Nathalie has also served as a Program Coordinator and Program Assistant at American University, where they oversaw the General Education Program and participated in course development and evaluation. Additionally, they have volunteered at Young Professionals in Foreign Policy and worked as a Staff Assistant at the War Crimes Research Office of American University Washington College of Law. Nathalie began their career as an Office and Program Services Associate at Human Rights First. Nathalie's expertise lies in advocating for digital rights and conducting research in the areas of privacy and data governance.

Nathalie Maréchal, PhD, earned their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in International Studies from American University from 2002 to 2006. Nathalie then pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in International Communication from the same institution from 2009 to 2011. Nathalie further enhanced their education by completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Communication from the University of Southern California between 2013 and 2018.
