Lieven Claessens is an accomplished soil scientist with extensive experience in environmental sciences and agriculture. Currently serving as Senior Soil Scientist at ISRIC - World Soil Information and Principal Scientist at CIFOR-ICRAF since May 2023, Lieven Claessens has held various roles including Assistant Professor at Wageningen University & Research since 2008 and Scientist at CGIAR since 2005. Previous positions include Farming Systems Specialist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Principal Scientist at ICRISAT, and Environmental Scientist at the International Potato Center. Academic qualifications consist of a PhD in Environmental Sciences and an MSc in Soil and Water from Wageningen University & Research, as well as a BSc in Agricultural and Applied Biological Sciences from KU Leuven.
