CPSE is the not-for-profit organization that accredits fire/rescue departments (Commission on Fire Accreditation International), provides professional designations for fire/rescue officers (Commission on Professional Credentialing) and provides technical and facilitation services for fire departments to help them develop strategic plans and analyze local community risks and hazards (Technical Advisor Program).

Today, there are over 200 Accredited Agencies, representing both municipal fire departments and Department of Defense fire agencies and almost 2,100 fire officers who have achieved professional designations as Chief Fire Officer, Chief Training Officer, Chief EMS Officer, Fire Marshal and Fire Officer.

The Compliance and Accreditation team at the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) oversees the evaluation and accreditation of fire/rescue departments via the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and the certification of fire/rescue professionals through the Commission on Professional Credentialing. This team conducts thorough reviews of agencies' annual compliance reports, assesses the credentials of fire officers seeking professional designations, and facilitates strategic planning and risk analysis for fire departments to enhance public safety standards.
