Karin Abarca Heidemann

EVP, Global Scientific Operations at Champions Oncology

Karin Abarca Heidemann is the current EVP of Global Scientific Operations at Champions Oncology. Prior to this, they served as Vice President of Science Operations at Rockland Immunochemicals Inc. from September 2011 to September 2019. From January 2008 to December 2011, Karin was an Associate Scientist at the Department of Biochemistry School of Medicine at Temple University. From January 2006 to June 2008, Karin was a Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. From April 2004 to January 2006, Karin was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt a. Main where they worked on determining the structure and dynamics of proteins and RNA using NMR-spectroscopy. Karin began their career as a researcher and PhD student at Forschungszentrum Jülich from January 1999 to December 2003.

Karin Abarca Heidemann has a certificate in leadership and management from The Wharton School, as well as a Dr. rer nat in biochemistry from the University of Cologne. Karin also has a diploma in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Cologne, and an Abitur in physics and mathematics from the Colegio Alemán de Quito - RRHH. In addition, they have certification from Wharton Executive Education in managing the global firm, leadership in the 21st century, managing and motivating talent, and strategic management: competitive and corporate strategy.

They work with Kakajan Komurov - VP, Oncology Discovery, David DeOrnellis - EVP, Global Laboratory Operations. Their manager is Maria Mancini, Chief of Scientific Operations.
