Maria Avrutsky has an extensive work history in the science and research field. Maria started their career as an Undergraduate Student at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2011. Maria then moved on to Columbia University in the City of New York, where they worked as a PhD Candidate and later as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology. In 2017, Maria co-founded Opera Therapeutics and also worked as a Fellow at Columbia Technology Ventures, where they performed intellectual property marketing, management, editing, and licensing research for technologies developed at Columbia University. In 2019, Maria joined The College Board as a Science Writer. Maria later joined Character Biosciences as a Scientist in 2020 and was promoted to Senior Scientist in 2021. In 2022, Maria started working at Qvin as a Scientific Writer/Consultant.
Maria Avrutsky completed their education with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan from 2007 to 2010. Maria then pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the Integrated Program in Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Studies at Columbia University from 2011 to 2017. Maria also obtained a certification as an Open Water Diver from PADI in August 2004.
