Substitute Musician at Charleston Symphony Orchestra

Jake Thonis is a skilled bassoonist currently serving as the Acting Associate Principal Bassoon for The Florida Orchestra since January 2022. Thonis has a diverse range of experience as a Freelance Musician since 2018 and has held substitute positions with several orchestras, including the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Colorado Music Festival. Thonis was the Principal Bassoon for the Victoria Symphony Orchestra from September 2017 to May 2019 and participated as an Artist-Participant in Marlboro Music from 2020 to 2022. Educationally, Thonis earned a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Bassoon Performance from Curtis Institute of Music, a Master’s Degree from Rice University, and a Bachelor of Music from Colburn School, complemented by a High School Diploma from Walnut Hill School for the Arts.
