Michael Harris

Mike Harris has served in various capacities at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department since July 1996, including roles as Major of the Special Operations Bureau, Captain of Professional Accountability, and Commander of the Special Investigations Bureau, with a focus on SWAT operations. Additional responsibilities include leadership in the Vice and Narcotics Units, Gang Unit, Firearms Unit, and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT). Prior to this, Mike Harris worked as an Instructor at the Force Science Institute from September 2021 to December 2023 and as a Crossfit Level 1 Coach at Crossfit Huntersville between January 2014 and November 2018. Mike Harris began a career in commercial insurance as a Commercial Lines Underwriter at Travelers from September 1992 to July 1996. Academic qualifications include a Master's degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from Boston University and a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Business/Managerial Economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
