Joanna Johnson-Collins has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Joanna began their career in 1987 at Contel of Illinois, where they served as a Budget Coordinator, Specialist, and Assistant for five years. Joanna then joined GTE as a Service Representative in the Business Office before moving to WilTel Communications as a Supervisor in Facility Cost - Switched Access.

In 1994, Joanna joined MFS Intelenet as a Senior Cost Management Analyst, and then transitioned to WorldCom in 1995, where they worked as a Senior Manager in Co-Carrier Billing Policy and Implementation. Joanna later moved to Verizon Business in 1999, initially serving as a Senior Manager in Local Network Integration Planning before becoming Senior Manager/Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis.

In 2010, Joanna changed industries and joined Lowell Public Schools as a Grants Manager, where they stayed for six years. More recently, in 2016, they joined Chelmsford Public Schools, initially as an Assistant School Business Administrator and then progressing to Director of Business & Finance.

Joanna Johnson-Collins attended Northern Illinois University from 1983 to 1987, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree. Joanna majored in Finance and minored in Economics during their time at the university. Prior to their college education, Joanna also attended Boylan Catholic High School. In November 2012, Joanna obtained a certification as a School Business Administrator from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
