HL Campbell has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of watershed assessment, restoration, and protection science, policy, and advocacy. HL has held various roles in different organizations throughout their career. In their current role as the Pennsylvania Science Policy and Advocacy Director at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), they are responsible for overseeing science policy and advocacy efforts. Prior to this, they served as the Pennsylvania Executive Director and Senior Scientist at CBF, where they managed staff, initiated innovative initiatives, and formulated position statements. Before joining CBF, they worked as an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Science at HACC, a Watershed Specialist at Gannett Fleming, and a Watershed Specialist at the Huron River Watershed Council. Additionally, they have experience as a Water Quality Specialist at the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, a Research Assistant at Penn State University, and a Field Technician at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
HL Campbell earned a Master of Science degree in Environmental Pollution Control from Penn State University, completing the program from 1996 to 1998. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Resource Management from the same institution, studying from 1989 to 1994. They have also obtained several certifications, including "Building Your Team," "Performance Management: Improving Employee Performance," "Decision-Making Strategies," "Delegating Tasks," and "Project Management Skills for Leaders" from LinkedIn. Additionally, they completed a course on the "Protection of Human Research Subjects - Biomedical" from the CITI Program in December 2022.
