Cecilia Astorga-Switzer

Chief Medical Officer at The Children's Center of Wayne County

Dr. Astorga-Switzer has been providing psychiatric care to children and their families since 1983. She specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry, emphasizing comprehensive psychiatric services and the use of evidence based treatment practices.

She provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and training and consultation to clinical staff at The Children’s Center. Dr. Astorga-Switzer believes in an integrated health care approach when addressing the needs of children, adolescents and their families who are affected by behavioral and emotional disorders. She has special interests in the field of attention deficit disorders, developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Astorga-Switzer completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City, Philippines. She earned her medical degree in 1976 from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. She completed her medical internship in 1977 at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila, Philippines. In 1981, she completed her residency training in general psychiatry at Detroit Psychiatric Institute in Detroit, Michigan followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry which she completed in 1983 at the Lafayette Clinic in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Astorga-Switzer was in private practice from 1985-1997 and has been affiliated with the Children’s Center since 1985. She served as Medical Director for a few years and has been the Chief Medical Officer since 2011. She has also provided consulting services to various children’s residential treatment agencies in the metropolitan Detroit area. She is board certified in general psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Dr. Astorga-Switzer has been involved in annual medical missions to the medically underserved areas in the Philippines thru her affiliation with the Philippine Medical Association of Michigan whereby she served twice as president of the organization.
