Avik Khan, PhD

Avik Khan, PhD, has a diverse and extensive background in research and academia. Avik is currently employed as a Research Scientist at Chinova Bioworks, a company dedicated to developing natural antimicrobial solutions. In addition, they hold the position of Adjunct Professor at the University of New Brunswick.

Prior to their current roles, Dr. Khan served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Dalhousie University, where they developed and offered graduate module courses focused on natural bioactive agents and biopolymers. Avik also co-founded EnCap BioTech Inc., a startup company focused on providing nature-inspired alternatives to petroleum-based synthetic polymers.

Dr. Khan has also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Verschuren Centre - CBU, where they led projects supported by grants to develop functional biomaterials and evaluate sustainable anti-biofouling technology. Avik gained valuable experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of New Brunswick, where they synthesized and produced novel antimicrobial starch and conducted pilot plant trials for industrial collaborations.

Additionally, they completed a Mitacs Industrial Fellowship at AV Group NB Inc., where they conducted mill trials and data analysis to identify key parameters affecting pulp viscosity. Earlier in their career, they served as a PhD Fellow at INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier, where they focused on developing chitosan-based antimicrobial packaging and natural antimicrobial formulations for food safety.

Avik Khan, PhD has a diverse educational background with a focus on biology and chemical engineering. Avik obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology from the University of Dhaka in 2008. Avik further pursued their studies and earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the same university in 2010.

Continuing their academic journey, Avik Khan pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Biology/Biological Sciences, General at the Université du Québec - Institut national de la recherche scientifique from 2010 to 2014. This program provided him with an in-depth understanding of biological sciences.
