Monique Petty-Ashmeade is an experienced journalist and community engagement professional currently serving as a Spring Reporting Fellow at City Bureau since August 2023, focusing on mental health needs of youth in Chicago's South and West Sides. Monique has held various roles at 14 East Magazine from November 2020 to June 2024, including Documenter, Community Engagement Editor, and Event Coordinator, where responsibilities involved spearheading public newsroom projects and bridging relationships between journalists and the community. Additionally, Monique has worked as a Contributing Writer, provided mentorship to incoming university students at DePaul University, and collaborated with youth to address safety in Chicago Public Schools through the Youth Safety Advisory Council under Mikva Challenge. Monique Petty-Ashmeade is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from DePaul University, expected to graduate in 2024.
