Kara Homan

Kara Homan, AICP has a strong background in community and economic development, with experience in various roles throughout their career. Kara is currently the Director of Community & Economic Development at the City of Appleton Wisconsin. Prior to this, they served as the President Elect of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association. Kara also worked at Outagamie County, where they held the positions of Director of Development & Land Services and Planning Director. Kara gained valuable experience as a Principal Planner at the City of Menasha and the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, where they focused on regional planning issues and coordination with stakeholders. Kara began their career as a Research, Teaching & Recruitment Assistant at the University of Iowa, where they conducted research and assisted in teaching an urban economics course. Kara also interned at the City of Pella, IA and the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, gaining valuable experience in planning and GIS. In addition, Kara worked as a Library Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Kara Homan, AICP, earned their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison between 2001 and 2005. Following that, they pursued their Master of Science (MS) degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Iowa from 2005 to 2007. In 2014 to 2017, they completed coursework towards a certificate in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Additionally, Kara obtained certification as an AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) in December 2010 and achieved membership in The Phi Beta Kappa Society in May 2005.
