Jerry Kaylor has called Blue Springs home for the past 44 years and was elected to the District 1 Council Seat in April 2017 and in June 2020 was re-elected to his second term. Kaylor has always been passionate about public safety and prior to his election he served as a Sargent with the Blue Springs Police Department reserve unit.
For the past 13 years, Kaylor has served as a member of the Blue Springs Police Department’s Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS). He also helps with the Blue Springs Citizens Police Academy and was presented with the 2013 and 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award by the Blue Springs Police Department.
Kaylor was appointed by Mayor Carson Ross to serve on the Public Safety Citizens; Advisory Board in 2014 and was reappointed in 2016. As a board member, he provided oversight of the Dedicated Public Safety Sales Tax that funded the renovation of the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building, building of the temporary Animal Control facility, the new radio communications system, and provides funding for 17 positions serving the Blue Springs community.
He has been involved throughout the community including work as the sound technician for the annual Blue Springs National Night Out Against Crime and the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting events. Kaylor is a key volunteer with the Blue Springs D.A.R.E. program and is responsible for all D.A.R.E. Mustang appearances.
Kaylor was honored to be selected to sit in the Buck O’Neil seat in April 2018, and was inducted to the Wood Bat Hall Of Fame July 2019.
Kaylor often volunteers his services as an auctioneer and has auctioned game jerseys and raised over $30,000 for the Missouri Mavericks’ Law Enforcement event, the Pediatric Cancer Event for the Comets soccer and has helped raise more than $25,000 for multiple Blue Springs PTA fundraising events.
Jerry retired as an Inside Wireman Journeyman Electrician after 38 years of service.
