Michael Mays has a diverse work experience in the field of community development and planning. michael started their career as a Planner at the Village of Roselle from July 1995 to July 1998. michael then moved on to work as a Planner II at the City of Highland Park from July 1998 to December 1999, where they collaborated with residents to develop long-range neighborhood plans and provided staff support to the zoning board of appeals. From December 1999 to September 2017, Michael served as the Director of Community Development at the Village of Woodridge, leading a department of ten employees and overseeing functions such as building review, planning, code enforcement, and economic development. Their most recent role was as the Director of Community Development at the City of Boulder City, starting in September 2017, where they were responsible for implementing community plans, regulating city codes, ensuring quality development, and overseeing building permits, planning, code enforcement, economic development, and historic preservation.
Michael Mays obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management from Buena Vista University, which they attended from 1987 to 1991. michael later pursued a Masters degree in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University, where they studied from 1992 to 1994.
