Karen Gage

Karen Gage has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Karen began their career in 1998 as a Real Estate Development Manager at the City of Detroit, where they successfully managed property acquisition and played a key role in a large-scale redevelopment planning effort. In 2003, they joined New Center Council, Inc. as the Vice-President and secured significant foundation support for park renovation projects and streetscape enhancement initiatives.

In 2004, Karen became an Event Partner and Route Logistics leader at Tour de Troit, where they organized a large-scale bike event and coordinated route logistics. Karen continued their passion for cycling in 2008 when they co-founded Wheelhouse Detroit Bike Shop, a successful venture that offers retail, rentals, service, and guided tours.

In 2011, Karen joined MIDTOWN DETROIT INC as an Economic Development Manager. During their tenure, they led community engagement for the Brush Park Rehabilitation Project and developed a new zoning classification and rezoning plan to support a vibrant urban district.

Most recently, Karen worked at the City of Detroit as the Design and Development Innovation Director, starting in February 2019. Prior to this role, they served as the Associate Director of Development and as the Lead Planner, demonstrating their expertise in design, development, and planning.

Karen Gage earned a Bachelor of Science degree in City/Urban, Community, and Regional Planning from Michigan State University, where they studied from 1994 to 1998. In 1997, they also participated in a student exchange program at TU Dortmund University, focusing on the Adaptive Reuse of Industrial Sites.
