Kat Hartman

Kat Hartman has had a diverse work experience in data strategy, analytics, innovation, and emerging technology. Kat has served as the Director of Data Strategy & Analytics and the Director of Innovation & Emerging Technology at the City of Detroit since 2018. Prior to that, they worked as an Adjunct Faculty for Graduate Studies in Data Visualization at the College for Creative Studies from 2016 to 2019. Kat also worked as a Senior Manager of Reporting and Data Visualization at Korn Ferry from 2016 to 2018, where they focused on data-heavy projects and innovation.

Before joining Korn Ferry, Kat Hartman had their own consultancy firm, kathartman.com, where they provided data analysis, strategy, and visualization services to various clients. Kat worked with organizations such as UNESCO Institute of Statistics, the City of Detroit, and The CoLab at MIT. Additionally, they worked as the Director of Design + UX and an Information Design Consultant at NiJeL, a data visualization firm, from 2014 to 2018. Their clients included non-profits, foundations, and community organizations.

Earlier in their career, Kat Hartman held roles such as Research Analyst, Communications Manager, and Project Manager at Data Driven Detroit from 2010 to 2013. Kat also served as a Research Analyst at SEIU - Healthcare MI and completed an internship at UNICEF as a Social Policy Intern. Kat began their professional journey as a Graduate Student Instructor and Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, where they conducted surveys and research in Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Kat Hartman holds a MFA degree in Information Design & Health Communication from the University of Michigan, which was obtained from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, they obtained a BA degree in Illustration from The College of Wooster, which they completed from 1999 to 2003. Before their college years, Kat attended John Glenn High School, although no specific dates or degrees were provided for this period.
