Matt Baumgardner

Matt Baumgardner, P.E., currently serves as the Director of Public Works and City Engineer for the City of Downey since May 2023. Prior to this role, Matt was the Director of Public Works for the City of San Fernando from July 2020 to April 2023. Matt's career includes significant positions such as Director of Operations/Engineering Manager at Ventura Regional Sanitation District and Ventura Branch Manager/Senior Engineer at Twining, Inc. Matt began the engineering career as a Staff Engineer (Geotechnical) at Gorian & Associates, and held roles including Environmental Engineer at EnviroSolve Corporation and Associate Civil Engineer at the City of Calabasas. Matt holds a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from California State University, Fullerton, a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State University, Northridge, and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
