Doug Matthews

Doug Matthews is the current Assistant City Manager/Chief Administrative Officer at the City of Grand Rapids. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Communications Director at the City of Austin from February 2009 to February 2019. In this role, Doug provided strategic counseling for senior management and the City Council related to the public impact of policy and operational decisions. Doug also oversaw a $3.9 million operating and capital budget.

During their time at the City of Austin, Doug led or participated in a number of high-profile initiatives, including strategic plan development, special events ordinance revisions, comprehensive plan development, organizational values creation, fair chance hiring and paid sick leave ordinances implementation, Major League Soccer recruitment to Austin, and community participation in comprehensive land development code revisions.

Doug Matthews has a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Central Florida.
