Azucena Castro

Azucena Castro is a Geographic Information Systems Specialist at the City of San José since January 2022, working within the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services on the BeautifySJ initiative. Prior experience includes a role as a Data Analysis/GIS Intern at the City of Oakland from June 2019 to December 2021, focusing on transportation projects through the Department of Transportation. Azucena also served as a Data & Mapping Researcher for Mapping for Environmental Justice in late 2020 and as an NSF LSAMP Research Scholar at Cal NERDS in 2019, where research involved analyzing California's drought impact using remote sensing technology. Earlier experience includes a position as a Peer Advisor at the UC Berkeley Division of Data Sciences, providing support to students. Azucena holds a B.A. in Data Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
