Denise Cheeseman is an experienced sustainability professional currently serving as the Interim Sustainability Director and Sustainability Project Manager for the City of Savannah since November 2022. In this role, Denise manages the Brownfields program, promotes the phasing out of single-use plastics, develops community partnerships for the Community Garden program, and educates city employees on sustainability and mindfulness. Previously, Denise was the Executive Director of Iowa Student Action, leading advocacy efforts for economic and racial equity and successfully raising significant funding. Denise also held positions at The University of Iowa Center for Conferences, managing administrative operations for numerous events, and served as the inaugural Homecoming Sustainability Director at the University of Iowa, implementing sustainable practices for large-scale events. Denise holds a B.A. in English and Creative Writing along with a Sustainability Certificate from the University of Iowa.
