Jay Henry

Head of Business Development at Clarke & Esposito

Jay Henry’s two decades of experience in the academic publishing industry spans journal aggregators, booksellers, and database providers. He brings both business experience and technical skills to help clients make informed decisions and build compelling products.

Beginning at Ingenta in Cambridge, Jay worked as a technical advisor for publishers to understand and manage the processes of managing digital editions, and the metadata to support that effort. He worked with US and UK teams to build new processes and refine client-facing messaging. After moving back to his home in the Pacific Northwest, Jay went to work for Blackwell North America, where he served as the Director of Business Development and then as the Director of Digital Services. In those roles, he was able to use his technical and negotiating experience to guide the development of the first aggregated eBook solution for academic libraries. Most recently, Jay served as the Chief Marketing Officer at Ringgold. In addition to managing an international sales team and steering corporate strategy, Jay led the effort to redesign the search interface for the Ringgold Database and was responsible for all aspects of branding and communications for the company. Jay also provided direct services to clients in need of specialized data analysis or third-party integrations.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Idaho, and certifications in Product Management from Pragmatic Marketing, and Negotiation from Harvard Law. Jay’s professional career, and business education, was founded on the experience gained while working as a commercial risk manager before making the choice to pursue a career in academic information management
