S. Piril Ertem, Ph.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of materials science. S. Piril is currently the Director of Materials Science at Claros Technologies Inc. since April 2023. Previously, they worked as a Senior R&D Scientist at Surmodics, Inc. from May 2020 to April 2023, where they were responsible for leading and developing multiple projects in collaboration with product development teams. S. Piril also served as a technical advisor to various teams within the company.
Prior to their role at Surmodics, Inc., Dr. Ertem worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Minnesota from May 2018 to May 2020. There, they led two distinct projects, supervised graduate students, and contributed to the preparation of written and oral presentations. S. Piril'sresearch focused on the effect of polymer structure on catalytic degradation and the chemical functionalization of polysaccharides.
Before their postdoctoral position, Dr. Ertem served as a Senior Scientist at Axalta from September 2016 to April 2018. S. Piril developed rheology modifiers for solventborne automotive paint formulations and collaborated with different business units to implement new technologies.
Dr. Ertem's work experience also includes a role as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from September 2011 to July 2016, where they conducted research on polymer and small molecule designs for anion conducting membranes. S. Piril synthesized chemically stable ionic monomers and investigated the relationship between polymer microstructure and ion conductivity.
Additionally, Dr. Ertem served as a Research Assistant at Koc University from October 2009 to July 2011.
S. Piril Ertem, Ph.D. completed their education in a chronological order as follows. S. Piril attended Sankt Georg Austrian Highschool from 1996 to 2004, earning an unspecified degree in an unspecified field of study. S. Piril then pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry from Boğaziçi University from 2005 to 2009. From 2006 to 2007, they studied at the University of Vienna - Chemistry Department, although their degree and field of study during this period remain unknown. Later, they pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) in Materials Science and Engineering from Koç University from 2009 to 2011. Finally, they attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2011 to 2016, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Polymer Science & Engineering.
