Katherine Larson

Katherine Larson has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Katherine is currently working at ClassPass as an Engineering Manager, where they started in April 2023. Before that, they worked as a Senior ML Engineer at ClassPass from June 2022 to April 2023, and as a Machine Learning Software Engineer from November 2021 to June 2022.

Prior to their role at ClassPass, Katherine worked at Capital One from August 2017 to October 2021. During their time at Capital One, they held the position of Data Engineer and was part of the CreditWise team. In this role, they enhanced data pipelines using pyspark and AWS infrastructure, developed reusable data ETLs, and led the development of a patent-pending tool for data masking. Katherine also received recognition for their work, including the 2020 Data Champion Award and the 2021 Hispanics in Tech Award of Achievement. From 2017 to 2019, they worked on the Monitoring Intelligence team, utilizing machine learning to detect production failures and reducing false positive alerts. Katherine was also involved in various diversity and inclusion initiatives and outreach efforts.

Before joining Capital One, Katherine worked as a Data Scientist Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton from July 2016 to August 2017. In this role, they applied machine learning techniques to analyze survey data and address pain points for clients in the Department of Defense (DoD). Katherine performed clustering, created topic models, conducted sentiment analysis, and developed interactive map visualizations.

Katherine also has internship experience, having worked at Booz Allen Hamilton as a Software Engineer Intern in 2014. In this role, they developed an algorithm to detect propagandists on Twitter and created a web application to visualize the findings. Katherine also served as a project manager and focused on multilingual natural language processing and data visualization.

Additionally, Katherine worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Excella Consulting from February 2014 to October 2014. In this role, they collaborated with teams from other Excella Extension Centers, completed client-assigned tasks, and utilized C#, ASP.NET, VB.NET, Visual Studio, MySQL, and unit testing.

Katherine Larson attended the University of Maryland from 2012 to 2016, where they earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained two additional certifications. In November 2016, they received a certification in "Machine Learning Foundations: A Case Study Approach" from Coursera Course Certificates. Following that, in April 2017, they obtained another certification in "Machine Learning: Regression" from Coursera.
