Khuthala Somdaka

Business Mentor at GCIP at Cleantech Open

Khuthala Somdaka has a diverse range of work experience in the field of clean energy and environmental development. Their most recent role was as an Energy Development Specialist at the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, starting in February 2023. Prior to this, Khuthala served as a Business Mentor at GCIP (Global Cleantech Innovation Program) at Cleantech Open from January 2017 onwards. In this position, they provided mentorship to small and medium enterprises working on clean technology solutions.

Before joining Cleantech Open, Khuthala worked as a Project Development Officer for Energy Projects at the Coega Development Corporation from May 2015 to February 2023. In this role, Khuthala was responsible for developing and implementing energy strategies and managing energy projects. They also had involvement in negotiations with project partners, budget management, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

In addition to their professional experience, Khuthala also worked as a Laboratory and Research Assistant at Greentech Biofuels from December 2014 to February 2015.

Overall, Khuthala Somdaka has demonstrated a commitment to promoting clean technology innovation, supporting small and medium enterprises, and contributing to sustainable energy development.

Khuthala Somdaka completed their high school education at St Matthews High from 2003 to 2007, where they obtained their Matric degree. Khuthala then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Fort Hare, completing it from 2008 to 2010. Continuing their studies, they earned an Honors of Science in Biochemistry from the same university in 2011. Lastly, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Chemical Engineering at North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit, which they completed from 2013 to 2015.
