John Garland has extensive work experience in the seafood industry. John began their career at Environment Canada in 1991 as a Field Microbiology Technician. In 1994, they joined Clearwater Seafoods LP as a Lobster Biologist, and subsequently held positions as Head Biologist, Research Scientist, and Senior Biologist. Since 2019, they have served as the Director of Research Development for Land-Based Operations at Clearwater Seafoods LP.
John Garland earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from Dalhousie University, where they studied from 1989 to 1993. Later, they pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Hull in Lobster Physiology, completing their doctoral studies from 2006 to 2015. Additionally, they obtained a certification as a National Beer Judge from the Beer Judge Certification Program in February 2023.

The Company's wild-caught seafood includes scallops, lobster, clams, coldwater shrimp, crab, langoustines, whelk and groundfish. It harvests, processes and distributes shellfish. The Company's vessels include Atlantic Surf III, Capesante, Arctic Endurance, Ocean Concord, Belle Carnell, Maude Adams, Atlantic Protector, Atlantic Preserver and Randell Dominaux. Its vessels, Atlantic Enterprise and Ocean Prawns, harvest and process Canadian coldwater prawns. Argentine scallops are harvested off the Argentine Continental Shelf by its subsidiary, Glaciar Pesquera.
