Fernando Hirata

Research Scientist at Climate Forecast Applications Network

Fernando Hirata has a diverse work experience in the field of climate forecasting and research. Fernando started their career at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2008 as a Graduate Student and later served as a Teaching Assistant for courses on Tropical Dynamics and Global and Climate Change. In 2013, they joined the Climate Forecast Applications Network (CFAN) as a Supplemental Forecaster. Fernando then worked at UFPR as a Bolsista Jovem Talento - Programa Ciência sem Fronteiras from 2013 to 2016. Fernando Hirata returned to CFAN in 2016, initially as a Consultant and then transitioned to the role of Research Scientist.

Fernando Hirata's education history includes a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from UEL - Universidade Estadual de Londrina, which was obtained from 1997 to 2001. Fernando then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MSc) in Physical Oceanography from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande - FURG, which was completed from 2000 to 2008. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Climate Dynamics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they studied from 2008 to 2013.
