Climate Risk Data Scientist at ClimateCheck

Maximilian Stiefel is a Climate Risk Data Scientist at ClimateCheck since November 2019, with extensive experience in academic and research settings. Maximilian served as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant in the Geography Department at UC Santa Barbara from September 2014 to March 2022, assisting with various courses focused on environmental themes. During a fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research from August 2016 to July 2017, Maximilian conducted advanced research in mathematical and statistical demography across Germany and Italy. A Climate Corps Fellow at the Environmental Defense Fund in summer 2016, efforts included analyzing energy use in New York City buildings. Earlier positions include being a Carbon Neutrality Fellow at UC Santa Barbara and a Sustainability Journal Coordinator at the University of Utah. Maximilian holds a Ph.D. in Geography from UC Santa Barbara and additional degrees in Geography, Demography, Economics, and Environmental and Sustainability Studies from various institutions, including study abroad experiences in Turkey and South Korea.
