Lead Product Designer

Product · TX, United States of America

Job description

Overview

For the majority of 2024, ClosedLoop has been developing a new, not-yet-launched, consumer product aimed at helping people navigate their health, built on top of generative AI.

We are hiring an experienced Lead Product Designer to join us in this effort.

Our ideal candidate is someone who has:

  • Experience navigating a consumer product to Product Market Fit
  • Experience designing a consumer mobile app that people love
  • Experience solving patient-facing health care or wellness problems

We’re looking for someone with the full 0->1 customer discovery skill set: you think in terms of hypotheses, you ground your thinking in user research and user empathy, and you approach solving user problems by working backwards from the Jobs To Be Done. You are also someone with excellent visual and interaction design skills, from helping us conceive the brand look and feel, to how it plays out as a design system, and the subtle interactions that make an app delightful to use. At ClosedLoop, designers are solution creators, not order takers.

This is a fast-paced, pre-Product Market Fit, startup environment. We debate and decide quickly, meetings have agendas and pre-reads, and we expect high quality execution despite limited resources.

You’ll be collaborating with truly excellent engineers, product managers, and our executive team. We’re a small company — 25 people — but we’re packed with senior folks who are at the top of their game, work well together, are goal oriented, and want to make a difference.

Key elements of the role ...

Research and Discovery:

  • Use multiple tools to conduct generative user research (user interviews, ethnographic observations, diary studies, card sorting, etc).
  • Create user journey maps of the main Jobs To Be Done based on our research.
  • Form design hypotheses that describe potential solutions that could solve identified user needs.
  • Validate the success of your designs via user testing and other evaluative research methods.
  • Stay up to date on evolving user expectations and design trends.
  • Lead various user-centered design thinking exercises, when it’s the right tool for the job.

Execution:

  • Design products that users love, and that help achieve business goals.
  • Lead the ideation of potential solutions that could solve the problems identified by product management, in collaboration with your PM and engineering partners.
  • Together with your product management and engineering partners, participate in all aspects of sprint planning, execution, and ceremonies.
  • Own all phases of the design process, from ideation to prototyping to high fidelity visual and interaction design execution.
  • Working with, and contributing to, an scalable and shared design system.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and others to design new features and enhance existing ones.
  • Collaborate with product management to test new ideas, and translate user research and testing into actionable product recommendations.
  • Be curious about any user behavioral data and metrics that can inform design decisions and product roadmap.
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, and the executive team on brand design and execution.

Leadership and Communication:

  • Create North Star designs that communicate where we’re headed, based on our strategy, brand, and research.
  • Successfully communicate to the team and stakeholders what our design goals were that informed a particular direction, which parts need further validation, and how we might go about validating them.
  • Lead regular design reviews with stakeholders, getting alignment on key decisions.

The right person for the job has ...

  • Proven track record finding product market fit for a consumer product
  • Demonstrated measurable success as product designer for a consumer mobile app
  • Contributes value through strategy and execution
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Delivers results in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and visual communication
  • Deep understanding of discovery techniques to identify and test hypotheses and assumptions
  • Good judgment and awareness of when to stop and pivot to something else

Required Education & Experience:

  • 8+ years of product design experience, primarily in consumer product
  • Experience finding product market fit as a designer
  • Experience designing patient-facing health or wellness products
  • Fluency with Figma and user research tools
